A Seasonal and Spatial Summary of Oceanographic Data from the Northeastern Tropical Pacific (DOMES Region), Summer 1975 and Winter 1976

Upper water column data are presented from two series of cruises to the northeastern tropical Pacific conducted as part of the DOMES (Deep Ocean Mining Environmental Study) project in August-October 1975 and February-March 1976. The data selected include hydrographic data, dissolved chemical constituents, biochemical parameters, phytoplankton pigments and primary production rates, and suspended particulate concentrations. Tabular summaries and histograms of data values are presented for four depth zones--the surface mixed layer, the pycnocline, bottom of the pycnocline to 400 m, and 400-1000 m. Statistically detectable spatial heterogeneity exists across the DOMES region, although the variables which best indicate this heterogeneity are different above and below the pycnocline. To a lesser extent, seasonal differences are also detected.
