This report completes a two-year baseline study of the offshore benthic and water column environments of the Southern California Bight. As a complement to the second year baseline study a multi-component study of the chemical pollutant flux into the area was conducted. The baseline study contained elements on macro- and micro-biological community structure, water column and sedimentary geochemistry, pollutant tissue burdens of pelagic macro-biota, fish histopathology, and water mass characterization. The pollutant flux study included chemical (petroleum hydrocarbons and heavy metals) investigations on sediments and suspended particulates collected from four deep basins located within the Bight.
