Cooling Systems Addendum:Capital and Total Generating Cost Studies.

A variety of alternate cooling systems designs exist for condenser heat disposal for commercial electric power plants. Presented in this report are design descriptions and capital cost information for three alternate cooling tower systems. These cooling systems are designed for utilization with six different electric generating plants. The three cooling systems designs addressed are:once-through cooling,natural draft evaporative towers and fan-assisted natural draft evaporative towers. The information presented herein supplements the base capital costs contained in NUREG studies 0241through 0246,in which mechanical draft evaporative cooling tower systems were used for condenser heat disposal purposes. Impacts on the base construction cost of the electric generating plants as well as plant performance are identified for each of the alternate cooling systems. Included is a method for comparing the total generating costs for each of the six generating plants utilizing each of the cooling systems alternates.
