Application of Satellite Data to Surface Mine Monitoring in Selected Counties of South Carolina

Landsat data from computer compatible tapes were used to explore the capability of Landsat digital imagery to monitor mining and reclamation activity in several South Carolina mining operations. Differentiation between active-spoil-partially and completely reclaimed areas was successfully demonstrated including small mining operations of less than 30 acres.
