摘要

From July 1, 1975 to June 30, 1979 a total of 534 fish disease cases from commercially oriented sources were processed. Channel catfish was the predominant species being involved in 309 cases and constituting 78% of the total. Eight other groups or species of fish were recorded. There were 20 virus disease cases, primarily channel catfish virus, but a new virus from golden shiners was found and described. Bacteria were involved in 164 cases. Aeromonas hydrophila and Flexibacter columnaris were the most common causes of bacterial infection (77% of the bacterial cases). Eight other bacterial diseases were recorded including an apparently new disease caused by an organism similar to, but distinct from, Edwardsiella tarda. Parasites contributed to 114 cases. Multiple protozoan infestations were the most numerous followed by Ichthyobodo (Costia) and Ichthyophthirius. The miscellaneous category included 231 cases, many of which were routine examinations and losses due to unknown causes. One new species of Trichodina was described and one previously described species of Trichodina found infesting catfish is redescribed.
