The Tri-State Recreation Conference, held October 23 and 24, 1978, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, represents what is hoped to be the first in a series of conferences to look at marine recreation in the context of coastal management. The recreation conference had a number of purposes. Most importantly, the conference increased the visibility of recreation in the minds of coastal managers and the public. The conference presented a wide range of speakers from government, industry and the public who discussed recreation in concrete, tangible terms. These proceedings consist of carefully edited remarks made at the conference.
