Lake Bomoseen; Water Quality Improvement Project, 1977-1979

The report details and evaluates the technical work completed during the third and final year of a program of aquatic plant harvesting on Lake Bomoseen in Castleton, Vermont (May-September 1979). These proposed studies included (1) a record of the harvesting operation, the quantity of plants removed and the quantity of phosphorus removed from the lake through harvesting, (2) a general limnological monitoring program to identify trends in Secchi disk transparency and dissolved oxygen, chlorophyll-a and total phosphorus concentrations in the main lake, (3) a program to monitor harvested areas to detect water quality differences (in comparison to the main lake) that could be related to harvesting, and (4) the use of plant tissue analysis to evaluate the availability of phosphorus for aquatic plant growth in Lake Bomoseen.
