Selection of Prototype Phonemes and Preparation of Referent Transcriptions for Speech Recognition Experiments by the Use of Spectral Stationarity

A semiautomatic method for the selection of prototype phonemes and the preparation of referent transcriptions for speech recognition experiments by the use of spectral stationarity is described. The method is based on the display of a continuous spectral decomposition of the speech waveform versus time on the storage tube of a computer display terminal.
