Report of Archaeological Investigations by University of Arizona Archaeological Field School at Grasshopper - Fort Apache Indian Reservation

The University completed its seventeenth field school season on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. From 1976-1979 excavations at the Chodistaas site, a twenty-room pueblo one mile northwest of Grasshopper Pueblo, were conducted. An intensified survey was also conducted within the 400 square mile Grasshopper region that recorded site vandalism, collected human osteological remains, and monitored subsequent vandalism. As a result of the findings of this survey, the Field School will redirect future efforts from more secure earlier sites to rapidly disappearing Canyon Creek Phase Sites.
