This workbook is intended to be used as an adjunct or supplement to a course or workshop on spirometry. It is not intended as a self-instructional package. Learning spirometry requires observation, demonstration and, most important, hand-on practice. The material is presented primarily to help anyone learn the basics of spirometry -- data gathering, calculating and recording (but not interpretation of results), and physicians, nurses and other health professionals may also find the material to be a helpful review and a handy reference aid. The basic format followed throughout is: explanation (overviews, guidelines, checklists, etc.); example (problem oriented); exercise (to test understanding and skills); and feedback (for immediate self-evaluation).
