Mineral Deficiency Symptoms of Three High Yielding Varieties of Rice

Since sufficient work has not yet been done to study the visible nutritional disorders of major nutrient elements in rice, an attempt was made to study the visible deficiency symptoms of these elements in three popular high yielding varieties of rice of Assam. This report contains the experiment and the results. It was found that the deficiency symptoms caused due to lack of nitrogen appeared within 7 days from the date of transplanting and these were followed by sulphur, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and phosphorous, in that order, and the absence of any of the major elements and their combinations reduced plant growth and root development to a considerable extent.
