The processes used in the pulp and paper manufacturing industry were described. The pulp and paper industry included the following segments: pulp and its byproducts; preliminary production facilities; and converting operations. Specific topics covered in the report included the production and consumption of pulpwood, woodpulp, paper and paperboard; facility types and Standard Industrial Classification codes; trade and professional associations and labor unions associated with this industry; pulping processes; papermaking processes; fourdrinier and cylinder papermaking machines; chemicals used for pulping and bleaching and papermaking; grades of wood pulp produced by the United States wood pulp mills; and exporters or producers of market wood pulp in the United States.
