An Analysis of Regional Health Planning Methodologies: Executive Summary (Revised)

This project addresses the inaccessibility, at state and local levels, of appropriate quantitative methodologies that are available to support health planning activities. The final report reviews available methodologies in the context of an overall planning framework, presents a new methodology for capacity planning in progressive patient care hospital facilities, evaluates the attempted implementation of two recently developed methodological innovations at a Health Systems Agency, and presents the results of a survey of Health Systems Plans to determine which methodologies are currently being used. For the most part, the report is limited to the review, evaluation, and presentation of methodologies for estimating bed requirements within hospitals or regions.
