Environmental Factors Affecting Surface Mining of Steeply Pitching Coal Seams. Volume II/Site Analyses

This report provides guidance to determine the environmental impacts associated with the surface mining of steeply pitching coal seams. Four additional issues are addressed: (1) time and motion studies of those coal mining systems employed in mining seams that pitch in excess of 25 degrees, (2) assessment of those mining techniques, (3) development of rationale for the mining methods employed, and (4) identification of the reclamation practices and determining whether these practices are in compliance with appropriate Federal and State regulations.
