Nineteen papers are published in these proceedings of the workshop held at Sapelo Island, Georgia on 16-20 May 1976. The reports contain useful information which may be beneficially applied in the rehabilitation and creation of coastal habitats. All coastal areas of the conterminous United States are addressed. Individual topics include techniques for creating salt marshes, creation of marshes on dredged material, planting techniques, marsh soil development, substrate interaction: microorganisms, deterioration of marshes, sand dune creation, mangrove swamp creation, creation of seagrass beds, impact of heavy metals and pesticides, use of infrared photography, ditching and diking, nutrient cycling, impact of sewage, and pricing of natural resources.
