The thesis is a descriptive study of elderly individuals in the Greater Boston area who were offered an emergency alarm system free of charge. It examines the individuals who were offered the system to identify the characteristics of those who accepted the system and the characteristics of those who refused to use it. This study of the utilization patterns of a novel emergency alarm system by the elderly expands current knowledge both in the field of aging and in utilization research.
