Development Document for Proposed Effluent Limitations Guidelines, New Source Performance Standards, and Pretreatment Standards for the Inorganic Chemicals Manufacturing Point Source Category

This document presents the findings of a study of the Inorganic Chemicals Manufacturing Point Source Category for the purpose of developing effluent limitations and guidelines for existing point sources and standards of performance and pretreatment standards for use and existing point sources to implement Sections 301, 304, 306, 307, 308, and 501 of the Clean Water Act (the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972, 33 USC 1251 et. seq., as amended by the Clean Water Act of 1977, P.L. 95-217) (the 'Act'). This document was also prepared in response to the Settlement Agreement in Natural Resources Defense Council, Inc. v. Train, 8 ERC 2120 (D.D.C. 1976), modified March 9, 1979. The information presented in this document provides technical support for regulations proposed in July 1980 for 11 subcategories of the Inorganic Chemicals Manufacturing Point Source Category. Descriptions of the treatment technologies appropriate for achieving the limitations as well as supporting data, cost estimates, and rationale for the development of the proposed effluent limitations, guidelines, and standards of performance are contained in this report.
