Short-Term Evaluation of State Educational Service Conditional Support Programs for Allopathic, Osteopathic, and Dental Students

The study analyzes the nature and scope of some 46 service conditional support programs for medical and dental students in 32 states. The programs provide for loan forgiveness in exchange for service in underserved areas. The study includes a description of state benefits; loans and service obligations for medical and dental students; provisions governing default and financial repayment of loans; and conditions and location of placement. The study also assesses the degree of compatibility and conflict between the state programs and the National Health Service Corps.
