While there was no evidence of chronic (long-term) health problems, there are acute health effects occurring due to intermittent high levels of hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and organic vapors. The potential for exposure to benzene constitutes a serious long-term health risk. Area sampling documented benzene concentrations in excess of health standards at the API Separator, Dual-Cell-Gravity Separator and Aeration Tanks. Recommendations for reducing operator exposures are detailed.
