摘要

The report focuses on the effects of Supported Work for young school dropouts. Between April 1975 and July 1977, five of the demonstration sites enrolled in the Supported Work evaluation sample 1,244 unemployed 17- to 20-year olds who had not completed high school. A randomly selected subset of this group was enrolled in Supported Work for up to 12 or 18 months depending on the site. Interview data are available for 861 youth for the first 18 months following enrollment, but only for 153 after 36 months. The general conclusions from this study are that the availability of a Supported Work job had short-run impacts on employment and, consequently, on dependence on public assistance, but that the program does not appear to have met its central objective of mitigating the long-run employment problems of this disadvantaged segment of the youth population.
