Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse among Women: Research Issues. Proceedings of a Workshop Held at Jekyll Island, Georgia on April 2-5, 1978

Focus of the workshop is on various factors relating to the development and treatment of alcoholism and alcohol problems among women. Existing research was discussed, key issues were identified, and research priorities and plans were developed for use by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) in its research efforts. Topics included: (1) epidemiology of male/female drinking over the last half-century; (2) biological and psychosocial consequences of alcohol for women; (3) risk factors related to alcohol problems among women (proneness and vulnerability); (4) clinical research (casefinding, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation); and (5) prevention and education research.
