To meet the requirements of thermal power stations and industries, the present concept of loading rate has to be revolutionized and increased manifold to avoid congestion of our railway tracks and meet challenges of supplying coal to required agencies in due time. The role of civil engineers in dispatching of coal is manifold but it starts with bunkers and silos. These structures lend to modern method of optimization and analyses very aptly. With this in view, the seminar was organized to bring in focus the possibilities of economy and efficiency in their structures. The volume contains the papers presented in the seminar.
