A Study of the Utilization of Retired Teachers as a Supplementary Educational Resource

The document reports the research component of a project designed to (a) test the availability and effectiveness of retired teachers as volunteer tutors in reading and math and (b) determine if retired teachers will want to use their skills and, whether this will give them satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment. The demonstration project was conducted for one year tutoring second and fourth grade students in two schools. Major problems were encountered with the pre- and post-test scores which prevented their use for comparing experimental and control groups.
