In this paper a method to solve dead-lock problems in multiprocessor realizations of digital signal processing algorithms is presented. The precedence relations defining the order of computations in the signal flow diagram are introduced. Using the precedence relations it is shown how to predetermine the sequence of computations on each processor in such a way that dead-lock situations are avoided. Further it is shown that under certain conditions it is possible to distribute the computations to separate processors so that the entire multiprocessor configuration will be free from dead-locks. The method can easily be included into the computer aided design of multiprocessor systems using the modified Petri nets.
