摘要

Health hazards were determined at Sline Industrial Painters (SIC-1721), contractors to the Monsanto Company in Texas City, Texas, on October 2, 1979. The company was under consideration for inclusion in an in depth epidemiological, industrial hygiene, and medical study of health hazards in the painting trades. The company employed 15 to 30 painters who typically painted the interior and exterior of large storage tanks, the exterior of process equipment, and the exteriors of piping and pipe racks. After surface preparation, materials for painting usually received one coat of an inorganic zinc primer and two coats of an epoxy topcoat. Solvents for paint thinning and cleanup were used. Most paint was applied using spray methods. Respiratory protective devices were required. The author concludes that it would be feasible to study the painters using union records, but company records would be inadequate. An industrial hygiene study of this company probably would be inconclusive.
