Synthesis and Characterisation of Some Alkyl-2-Naphthyl Ethers. Part 2

Eight alkyl-2-napthyl ethers (C10H7OR) were prepared by the reaction of 2-napthol (C10H8O) with the corresponding alcohols (R = methyl, 2-bromoethyl, isopropyl, isobutyl, tert. butyl, benzyl, n-dodecyl, and n-decyl alcohols) in presence of hydrochloric acid. The method requires refluxing the reaction mixture for a few hours. Excellent yields of the ether were obtained. Each ether prepared was characterized by its infrared, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectra. In addition the picrates of each were prepared.
