The report contains the proceedings of the National Congress organized by National Centre for Chemicals of the Istituto Superiore di Sanita (National Institute of Health in Italy), which was held on December 16, 2011. During the meeting, the criticalities emerging from the evaluation of the biocidal product dossiers submitted under Directive 98/8/EC and the Italian transposition L.D. N. 174/2000 were discussed, after one year since the beginning of the authorization procedures. Following the indications and the concerns raised by the industry with respect to the new regulation which will replace Directive 98/8/EC and is expected to be published by the end of 2012 entering into force on September 2013, are reported. The Evaluation Manual for the Authorization of Biocides Products (final version 1.0) was also presented.
