Mechanization, Labor Supply and Food Production

摘要

Preliminary to appropriate recommendations for land-saving, labor-intensive alternative agricultural technologies and other useful rural development strategies, it is necessary to investigate the present pattern of labor, land, and capital use in Egyptian agriculture. Accordingly, the behavior of surplus labor supplied by fellahin households in a typical village of the Nile Delta, Manshaat El-Gamal, was studied. A typical fellahin household controlling a small parcel of land was modeled using linear programming to simulate its optimum cropping and labor use pattern.
