Environmental and ship performance data were collected aboard the USCGC POLAR SEA in January-March 1981 as part of a multi-year program to make an operational assessment on the feasibility of a year-round marine transportation system (including offshore structures) serving Alaska. This is the third volume of a twelve volume set and focuses on the performance of the icebreaker from the ice edge in the South Bering Sea to the North Chukchi Sea at Point Barrow, Alaska. The report includes half-hour data summaries of environmental conditions and ship performance. An analysis of this data is provided along with an examination of operational factors which affect ship performance and an evaluation of ice forecasting.
