Short-Term Descriptive Study of the NIDR Dental Research Institutes and Centers (DRICs)

The purpose of this project was to describe the Dental Research Institutes and Centers (DRIC) program and develop a supporting detailed data base for future use in identifying key policy and programmatic issues and questions regarding the DRICs and developing management and evaluation strategies for their resolution. The center (5) were initiated in 1967, however, the project concentrated on 1974-1982. Completed data abstracting forms were organized into a set of looseleaf notebooks and provided to NIDR as a manual, longitudinal, data base for future evaluation and policy efforts. The descriptive study identified an extensive data base regarding organization, staffing, research emphases, budgets, and related components of each DRIC as well as an aggregate profile. The report text and exhibits present summaries of these data for the individual centers and the program. In addition, the report identifies data needs, potential future analyses, and evaluation criteria which NIDR can use in developing an ongoing evaluation system.
