Technology for Equipment to Improve Cold Rolling (Reien ni Okeru Taishitsu Kaizen no Tameno sho Setsubi Gijutsu ni Tsuite)

New technologies and equipment intended to reform the cold-rolling process are described. The scope of coverage ranges from the pickling of hot coil to the packing of cold rolled steel sheets. Descriptions are given of a high-performance butt welding machine, called the NMW, which greatly reduces the time required to weld hot coil; herical return equipment designed to connect conventional lines and to make compact lines; and automatic sheet metal packing technology which has resulted in saving of manpower and costs. All of the technologies are being utilized by Nippon Steel Company, and have the potential for application elsewhere.
