In May 1979, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) received a request from Local 8-719 of the Oil, Chemical, and Atomic Workers International Union for a Health Hazard Evaluation at the Exxon Chemical Plant, Pottsville, Pennsylvania. The union was concerned about employee exposure to lead chromate, carboxpolypropylene, propylene, and polypropylene. Environmental and bulk samples for ozone, lead chromate, acetic acid, C4-C6 hydrocarbons, and 2,6 di-t-butyl p-cresol (BHT) were collected in June 1979 and February 1980. Biological samples (urine and blood) were taken in March 1979.
