Mental Health Services for Rural Minorities

This paper reports the proceedings of a meeting held to discuss various aspects of mental health services for minority residents of rural communities. The meeting was held by the Center for Minority Mental Health Programs and the Mental Health Services Development Branch, National Institute of Mental Health on June 19 and 20, 1980 in Rockville, Maryland. The meeting was attended by 16 invited participants who were from mental health or migrant health centers, educational institutions or from minority research centers supported by the Center for Minority Mental Health Programs. Staff from the National Institute of Mental Health and other federal agencies also contributed to the discussions. The proceedings focused on three main subjects: the factors affecting the service delivery system, program strategies to address major issues, and research areas of benefit to service development.
