Fishing in the 80s: A New England Industry in Transition

This report is intended as a background document on the New England fishing industry for reporters, educators, and others new to fisheries to help them gain a better understanding of the character and problems of the industry. It incorporates, but is not limited to, information discussed at the Fishing in the 80's Conference, held December 9, 1980, in Sandwich Massachusetts. The subjects discussed included: The business of fishing; The economic realities; Fishery management; The political realities; U.S. - Canadian Fishing Treaty; and Georges Bank; Fuel and fish.
