Testing of Slipperiness: Forces Applied to the Floor and Movements of the Foot in Walking and in Slipping on the Heel

This report gives details of an attempt to find a valid method for testing the slipperiness of heels during normal walking. In order to achieve this, the movements of the foot and the forces applied to the floor have been studied. The dependence of the coefficient of friction on different factors (such as load, velocity, temperature, lubrication, surface roughness) is discussed, as well as the consequences of these variations for different test methods. A functional method of testing slipperiness is proposed.
