摘要

An understanding of the international cotton market is essential to those who form Egypt's cotton policies. The degree of market integration across different cotton qualities, for example, is important in evaluating changes in export levels of Egypt's extra-long staple varieties. Likewise, analysis of the expansion of production or of allocation between exports and domestic use, and projection of prices requires information on price and income elasticities and on appropriate lag structures. The paper reviews empirical work on the international cotton market. The models of the demand for cotton vary widely; three types are noteworthy.
