摘要

Earlier research utilizing data from the Seattle and Denver Income Maintenance Experiments has indicated that a negative income tax increases the rate of marital dissolution for families receiving financial treatments. This paper explores the effects of including variables related to marital conflict and normative attitudes toward sex roles in modeling NIT effects on rates of marital dissolution and employment status changes. The study examines if the NIT impact on dissolution rates vary according to the level of marital conflict; if the NIT permits women desiring a traditional role to reduce their labor supply; if the NIT reduces the tendency of women to increase their labor supply as a response to marital conflict; and the effect of marital conflict on husband's labor supply.
