摘要

A system analysis and design study of a bow-mounted shipboard wave profiler system was performed. Sensor analysis determined that the pulsed gallium arsenide laser would provide range measurements to the ocean surface with the required range accuracy when 4-6 inch diameter surface is illuminated by the laser. The laser system is integrated with a vessel motion compensation sub-system to reduce the effect of vessel yaw, sway, roll, pitch and heave from the range measurements, thereby providing accurate wave measurements. Various types of vessels with their corresponding range of vessel motions were reviewed and the possible sources of error from the vessel motion compensation sub-system and the laser sub-system were analyzed.
