The Prediction of the Thermal Performance of Buildings by the CR-Method

This research report describes a method for predicting the hottest and coldest likely indoor conditions in a house, given the materials of construction, general design details and layout. The procedure is based on an analysis of many measured values and thus requires no experimental verification. Although the calculation procedure, which is fully analyzed and illustrated by means of an example, is fairly complex, it requires no knowledge of advanced mathematics and all calculations can be done on a hand calculator. The procedure is not meant to replace sophisticated building energy and thermal performance prediction computer programs but is aimed at users who do not have computer facilities but nevertheless wish to assess the likely thermal performance of different structures.
