Checklist of Common Plants of the Appalachian Trail in the Jefferson National Forest, Virginia

This note lists the plants that a hiker is likely to notice on the Appalachian Trail in the Jefferson National Forest, Virginia. The list is one of the results of an inventory of plant life along the Trail as it passes through Southern National Forests. Only plants that were conspicuous because of their size, large population, or leaf or flower color are listed. Fungi, grasses, mosses, and lichens are excluded. Since each trail section was visited only once, some-plants whose flowers are conspicuous at times other than that of the inventory may be excluded.
