Comments on a Test Center for Mathematical Programming Algorithms

摘要

An argument is presented opposing the establishment of a center to test and evaluate algorithms designed to solve mathematical programming problems. Practical objections include: (1) the difficulty of staffing the center with people who are both competent and objective and (2) the problem of funding the center without jeopardizing the creative, as opposed to the bureaucratic, part of algorithm research and development. Also, the necessity for such a center is questioned.
