Archaeological Investigations at the Rainbow Site, Plymouth County, Iowa

摘要

Archaeological salvage investigations conducted at the Rainbow site in Plymouth County, Iowa, were intended to expose the record of a buried Plains Woodland site and to provide information for the reconstruction of the Woodland economic base, social organization, and ecological setting. The site contained more than 2 dozen stratified components buried in alluvium of the DeForest formation. Plains Woodland classification is supplemented and revised. The geomorphic record of the site is considered within the context of Holocene alluvial fills and erosion in small valleys of western Iowa.
