Public Transport in Rural Areas: The Increasing Role of Central and Local Government

The role of central and local government in the planning and provision of public transport in rural areas is examined in this report. The development of various roles is traced through the legislative background, leading to a comparison of the wide range of policies adopted by various authorities, as expressed in their Public Transport Plans and levels of financial support. Revenue support policies are examined in some detail.
