The coastal wetlands of Lake Huron are palustrine systems and are frequently partially wooded. They are influenced by lake level fluctuations. Lake sand or clay underlie most wetlands; a diversity of soil types occur. Vegetation is lacking in most of the littoral zone, although some shallow bays support bulrushes and cattails. Fish, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians, avifauna, mammals and endangered species are described.
