An Estimate of the Area Surveyable with an Airborne Laser Hydrography System at Ten U.S. Sites

The amount of area surveyable with a proposed airborne laser hydrography system is estimated to total 82,000 square kilometers for 10 U.S. sites. The technique uses an aircraft mounted, scanning beam, pulsed laser system to measure water depths. It has been shown that this technique can gather large quantities of accurate bathymetric soundings at a lower cost and with less manpower than present methods.
