Development of an Improved LNG Plant Failure Rate Data Base

Questionnaires were sent to LNG plant operators requesting data on failures of gas pretreatment systems, vaporizers, compressors, valves, piping, storage tanks, fire and leak detection systems, etc. The responses were combined to broaden the failure rate data base for major LNG plant equipment. The results generally agree with data found in an earlier survey. The results will be useful for individual plants in performing fault tree analyses to determine methods of improving plant reliability. Data on human failure rates were weak and additional human error research may be required.
