Growth Rates of Benthic Algae and Invertebrates in Puget Sound: I. Literature Review, and II. Field Studies on 'Laminaria' and 'Nereocystis'

A literature search on growth rates of benthic algae and invertebrates in Puget Sound showed relatively little is known about growth and productivity. Field studies were initiated to examine growth in populations of intertidal and subtidal Laminaria saccharina and subtidal Nereocystis luetkeana from Shannon Point, Puget Sound. Biomass production in August and September was approximately 250 g wet weight per day.
