摘要

The Chehalis Tribe has traditionally fished the Chehalis River for salmon and steelhead on their reservation near Oakville, Washington. In the summer of 1981 the Washington Department of Fisheries (WDF) recommended a closure of the tribe's fall chinook fishery. The tribe, having no biological staff, asked the Bureau of Indian (BIA) for assistance in evaluating the closure. The BIA requested the Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to advise the tribe on the status of salmon and steelhead stocks and to examine the reasons for the WDF management recommendations.
