摘要

A numerical model is formulated which accounts for tidal and transient wind forcing as well as the effects of the density gradients and off-shore large-scale oceanic circulation. The model deals with vertically integrated equations of motion and has been applied to the Middle Atlantic Bight. Model results agree substantively with available observations of the shelf and offshelf circulation. Tidal currents on the shelf and at the coast also agree with available observations. The tidal flow characteristics in the estuaries show somewhat poorer comparisons with observations, but this is said to be attributable to crude resolution.
