Distribution of Food Consumption in Relation to Price and Distribution Policies in the Urban and Rural Areas of Egypt

The paper discusses the distribution of consumption of important agricultural commodities in rural and urban areas of Egypt. Of particular interest, is whether the per capita consumption of certain commodities varies significantly among income classes and between urban and rural areas and how these consumption patterns are related to the government's subsidy and rationing policies. The data base was two family budget surveys conducted in Egypt in 1964-65 and 1974-75.
